WRESTLEZONE- HALLOWEEN HIJINX 2012 A SPOOKtacular evening of pro-wrestling action was in store for Aberdeen’s grappling fans, as WrestleZone returned to the Inchgarth Community Centre for “Halloween Hijinx”. Included in the night’s card was a Undisputed Championship bout, a 3-on-1 handicap match and the return of TJ Rage and Scott Maverick to the WrestleZone. With Crusher Craib out to earn a match with his former boss Richard R. Russell, could he overcome the numbers game against Sterling Oil and Damien? Plus in the night’s main event, champion “Tenacious” Johnny Lions would defend against the “Zenith of Zero-Gravity” with the flying Irishman looking to win his first gold in Scotland. To find out what went down this past Saturday night at a packed Inchgarth Community Centre, please continue below… GRANITE CITY HOTSHOTS V THE HOLYROOD BLONDS A future tag team championship was on the line for the Blonds as they marched into Inchgarth with victory in mind. Accompanied by Krystal Rose, both ‘Pretty Boy’ Benjamin Steele and ‘Gigolo’ James Midas knew what they had to do, in order to put themselves in the title picture at December’s Christmas Chaos event. The Granite City Hotshots returned to a rapturous welcome, but they were jumped as they entered the ring with the Blonds intent on getting the early advantage. And they isolated Tucker from his corner for the first few minutes, but eventually he made the tag and Shawn Johnson sent the Blonds tumbling! However, the Blonds would regain control of Johnson and he was then double-teamed with the Steele and Midas doing their best to triumph. But eventually Shawn made the tag, and a hyped-up Bryan Tucker was on a roll! However, the momentum would come crashing down as Krystal Rose provided enough of a distraction to allow James Midas to hit a gutbuster, and with Steele and Johnson battling on the outside, that was enough to give the Blonds the victory! By winning this match, this now means that Steele and Midas will challenge for the tag team titles on December 8th – but if the Hotshots are still the champions, they will want to rectify this blotch on their recent tag team record. CYSTO V ASPEN FAITH Next up would see the “Tangerine Dream” look to pick-up a victory over a man the WrestleZone fans love to hate, Aspen Faith. Cysto always has unconventional offence on his side and from the start he was able to outshine Faith. And the Solar-Power Superstar did not like getting upstaged, and he took out his frustrations on the limbs of the ‘Orange One’. But the Los Cystos spirit shines through every time the fan favourites enter the WrestleZone ring, and in the end Cysto came bouncing back into this match. And despite getting a number of close pinfalls, this one would not turn out well for the “Tangerine Dream” as he was forced to submit to Faith’s Altamont Clutch, continuing Faith’s recent resurgence in singles competition. BLUE THUNDER V SCOTT MAVERICK The third contest of the night would see the WrestleZone return of Scott Maverick, with the cocky grappler out to gain back-to-back victories over Blue Thunder. However the ‘Masked Marvel’ has had mixed results recently, and given his loss to Maverick earlier this year, he was out to even the score at Inchgarth. Maverick is a wrestler who does not endear himself to the WrestleZone audience, but Thunder was the man they had come to see. And in the opening stages, Thunder was able to get the better of Maverick to begin his momentum. But the advantage was short-lived as Maverick resorted to cheating to switch the momentum. From there, Maverick went to work on the body of Thunder, using a number of kicks that wounded the fan favourite. But given the history between these two, it was only a matter of time before the masked man would come rumbling back into this one! From there, this bout could have been either man’s as both had chances to take the victory. But in the end, it was Thunder who scooped the victory by countering Maverick’s superplex into one of his own for the three-count. HANDICAP MATCH: CRUSHER CRAIB V STERLING OIL & DAMIEN ONE MORE MATCH! The time had come for the match the whole of the WrestleZone had waited for. If Crusher were to beat the odds here, he would get a match with his former boss Richard R. Russell at Christmas Chaos. However, standing in his way to defend Sterling Oil were the trio of ‘Wonderful’ William, ‘Adorable’ Alan and Damien. All three men were under strict orders to ensure Crusher would not win – but from the off it became clear that Crusher was an enraged man! As the bodies tumbled, it seemed likely that Crusher would emerge victories. But doubts began to surface as the number’s advantage began to tell, with Sterling Oil getting the advantage over him. But no matter what they hit Crusher with, the ‘Creator of Carnage’ would bounce back and sent them tumbling! But this one would take an unfortunate turn after a clash between Crusher Craib and referee Dennis Law, resulting in the WrestleZone Head Official being crushed in the corner by the massive Craib! Damien superkicked Craib who then tasted the Oil Crash from Sterling Oil…but there was no referee. But in a sickening sight, former WrestleZone referee Andy Andrews – the man who screwed Crusher Craib at ‘Battle of the Nations’ in August – strolled out to the ring with his referee shirt on. With Oil covering Crusher someone needed to count the fall, and despite apparently being banned from ringside, Andrews was here to do it! On the orders of Mr. Russell, Andrews stepped into the ring to count the fall. This looked like another Sterling Oil screw job… that was until WrestleZone representative Mr. Paterson stepped into the ring to stop the pinfall! The boss was raging with the blatant disregard of Andrews, and as the two bickered inside the ring, there was only one thing that Mr. Paterson could do. In actions that brought a huge reaction from the audience, the WrestleZone pen-pusher turned power puncher, as he swung a home run and knocked Andrews clean off his feet! All the while the action continued, and Craib came back to dominate Sterling Oil and Damien. Russell’s plan had not worked, and now Craib was even madder at the events. Craib chokeslammed William from the top turnbuckle and then took out Damien and Alan. Crusher looked to have the bout won with a pinfall attempt on William, but amazingly he kicked out. However, one more Big Boot on ‘Wonderful’ William led to a three-count and scenes of joy at ringside! But there was one man not rejoicing – Richard R. Russell – who now must face Crusher Craib at Christmas Chaos. The monster earned his reward and will now face a showdown with his former boss, with revenge firmly in mind! SCOTTY SWIFT & DAVEY ANNAN V BRIAN STARR & TJ RAGE Ellon grappler Davey Annan had his close friend Scotty Swift in tow for this tag team contest – and was determined to end his losing streak. Looking to heap the humiliation onto Davey was the man who was the cause of his concussion earlier this year, Brian Starr. His tag team partner TJ Rage was out to dominate in his return to the WrestleZone, making this contest all the more intriguing. From the start, Davey and Scotty opened hot and it was clear that Starr and Rage would need to stoop low to gain the advantage. They worked together well to double-team the “Red-Haired Warrior” – leaving Annan to look on helplessly. Scotty is always a strong competitor, but he was put under the cosh here and things did not look good for Davey’s losing streak. But then, Scotty managed to tag Davey in, and he came roaring into this one with a heart of a lion. Davey sent Starr flying as he looked to end his losing run. And he looked to have it done when he hit his finishing move on Starr – only for Rage to break-up the pin! From there, Scotty took care of TJ leaving Brian and Davey alone in the ring. Davey once again hit an impact move but instead of going for the win, he looked to add the exclamation point by going up top. However, he was momentarily distracted and he missed with his crossbody splash, taking a tremendous tumble to the floor that would gain Starr and Rage the victory, ensuring that Davey’s losing streak continues. No doubt Annan was unlucky here and signs of frustration are already slipping into him – but as Scotty said after the match, there will be another day for Davey Annan and he will get that elusive win soon. UNDISPUTED TITLE MATCH: JOHNNY LIONS V BINGO BALLANCE Main event time at “Halloween Hijinx” and no doubt about it, this was a huge one. The champion, Johnny Lions, was intent on seeing off yet another challenge to his championship while the challenger, Bingo Ballance, was out to pick-up his first gold in the WrestleZone. As this one got under starter’s orders, it was clear the WrestleZone fans were firmly behind the Emerald Isle Superstar as he attempted to end Johnny’s six-month reign on top. A cagey opening witnessed both men trying out their best holds and it was clear that the “Zenith of Zero-Gravity” had the edge in the wrestling stakes. And when the action picked up, Bingo found himself on top with his quick-thinking offence leaving Lions scrambling. The champion, realising the grave danger he was in, looked to catch some air on the outside, but Bingo was in no mood for a time-out, and soared over the top rope to take out his opponent! This one descended into a brawl on the floor, with both men giving their all in the quest for the advantage. As Bingo looked to strike, Lions was fortunate enough to sidestep a crossbody attempt and this saw Bingo smash gut-first into the steel ring post! This was the chance Lions needed, and he went to work on the ribs on Ballance. Over the next several minutes, the situation deteriorated for Bingo as he struggled to cope under pressure from Lions. Indeed, the champion had a number of close pinfall attempts which had the audience urging Bingo to kick-out. And every time, the “Zenith of Zero-Gravity” would answer that call, and eventually he was able to mount his own comeback. Bingo’s moves are some of the most innovative ever-seen in the WrestleZone, and Lions struggled to cope with the speed and skill of Ballance’s movement. At this stage, the match was there for the taking and both men were intent on taking the chance. This one sat on a knife-edge as Lions went for his Lion Driver, while Bingo looked for the Ballance Effect. However, it was Bingo’s superior speed and agility that would end this one, as he countered another attempted Lion Driver, into a victory roll that pinned Johnny’s shoulders to the mat for the one…two..and three! As the crowd cheered, the realisation of a dream filled the Inchgarth Community Centre. Ballance had come good in the main event and ended the six-month reign of “Tenacious” Johnny Lions. Despite hurting badly from the bruising contest, Ballance celebrated with joy as the locker-room joined him at ringside. Given all his credentials, this was a crowning moment for Bingo Ballance as he picks up the promotion’s top prize. He replaces Johnny Lions and he will want to restore the honour and prestige that has been lacking during Lions’ reign. Given that Lions’ always cheated his way to victory, it was refreshing to see hard work prosper, and no doubt the WrestleZone fans were happy! What this means is that the WrestleZone are going to be seeing a lot more of Bingo Ballance – and given his incredible performance here, we can’t wait to see the new champion in action! |
