WRESTLEZONE- REGAL RUMBLE 2012 The biggest match of the year, the 2012 Regal Rumble, took place this past Saturday night in Aberdeen, with a sold-out crowd on hand to witness the 20-man over-the-top-rope contest. It would be an evening where there were many twists and turns, but with 25% of the entrants, it was clear Sterling Oil were the favourites to lift this year’s trophy. As well as the rumble itself, this card featured four other matches, including a special ‘Unsanctioned’ contest between Brian Starr and Scotty Swift. Could the “Forgotten Son” win himself a place back in the WrestleZone, or would the “Red-Haired Warrior” get rid of Starr once-and-for-all? To find out what went down at the Summerhill Hotel, please read on. BINGO BALLANCE, BRYAN TUCKER & SHAWN JOHNSON V CRUSHER CRAIB & STERLING OIL Six-man tag team action would start this event, with popular Irish grappler Ballance teaming up with Tucker & Johnson to take on the might of ‘Wonderful’ William, ‘Adorable’ Alan and Crusher Craib. The atmosphere inside the Summerhill Hotel was electric as the three fan favourites took the match to their opponents, working over Alan’s arm in the early stages. However, interference by Mr. Malice allowed his acquaintances to take control of Johnson, and over the next several minutes he was isolated from his partners. Indeed, Ballance and Tucker could only look-on as Shawn took an incredible pounding. But Johnson only needed one chance, and when that came he was able to make the tag to Ballance, and the “Zenith of Zero-Gravity” was in! The crowd responded well as Ballance went to town on Alan, William and Crusher. Eventually, he was able to hit the Ballance Effect that gave his team the victory ahead of the night’s main attraction. Ballance, as a former winner of the rumble, made his intentions clear, and Tucker and Johnson agreed it would be every man for himself. CYSTO V DAMIEN Our next contest would see the “Tangerine Dream” look to further humiliate the “Enigmatic Icon” in singles competition. However, Damien is a focussed competitor and despite a valiant effort from the “Orange One”, Damien just had too much in his locker. The Sterling Oil member picked up the victory here courtesy of his Devil’s DDT and he would hope to pick up further success later on in the evening. UNSANCTIONED MATCH: SCOTTY SWIFT V BRIAN STARR This fight had been months in the making, with Starr out to win himself a contract back in the WrestleZone. However, the “Red-Haired Warrior” was determined to see-off Starr once-and-for-all, and as this one started, it was clear this was no ordinary match. With the rulebook suspended for one night only, these two battled across the Summerhill Hotel, using everything and anything to batter each other. Eventually, the action returned to the wrestling ring but this continued to be a brawl, with the introduction of a steel chair proving pivotal. But despite taking gruelling punishment, Swift would not surrender and he fought back into this one to put Starr on the ropes. But as he looked for the Granite City Driver to put Starr away, the “Forgotten Son” attacked Scotty’s ribs, the ones he had injured back at Westhill. Under a venomous assault, Scotty was clearly in agony and could not muster much of a defence. As Scotty burst with his last ounce of energy, Starr was able to catch him in the Doctor Bomb, and drove him down hard onto a steel chair! After that shot, this one was a formality and the WrestleZone crowd could not believe it. As Starr rejoiced in the ring, WrestleZone management’s Dave Paterson presented Starr with his contract to sign, which he disrespectfully insisted on doing over his back! As Scotty was helped to the locker room, he was clearly inconsolable having given Starr what he wanted. However, as Starr celebrated in the ring, Mr Paterson had some words for his new employee: “Be careful what you wish for.” One of Starr’s wishes was entry into the Regal Rumble, and now that he had won his contract, his next goal was to become the Regal Rumble winner. NON-TITLE MATCH: JOHNNY LIONS V EG MACKIE Our illustrious champion was next in competition, and his opponent would be a man making his debut in the WrestleZone in place of a sick Mr. News; none-other than the very good Mr. EG Mackie. Mackie was out to make a huge impression on his debut, and there could be no-other way than to defeat the promotion’s current title-holder. Despite the big size difference here, Mackie was able to match-up to Lions in the early stages, frustrating the “Tenacious One” to the point where he snapped. The hot-head then went to work on the debutant, but no matter what he hit him with, he just couldn’t muster a win. Mackie showed tremendous resistance to stay in contention and it was no surprise when he battled back into this one with some unconventional offence. However, the champion was able to survive his flurry, and eventually managed to win after hitting his Lion Driver from the top rope! The champion had escaped a shock loss here, but this was a good debut from the mysterious Mackie who showed tremendous guts and desire to stay in this one. 2012 REGAL RUMBLE It was then time for the main event, the biggest match on the WrestleZone calendar. Twenty men would vie to be the 2012 Regal Rumble champion, but only one could lift the trophy. This over-the-top-rope contest has captured the imagination of the fans, and the air was fever-pitch as the battle commenced. Some of the early participants put in a good showing for themselves, but ultimately were unsuccessful. Davey Annan made his return from injury in this contest, but unfortunately he was eliminated by Aspen Faith. Scotty Swift and Brian Starr renewed their fight and ultimately eliminated each other from this contest. Former winners Bingo Ballance and Bryan Tucker put in a great effort to win, but the numbers game of Sterling Oil unfortunately ended their chances, as both were eliminated by gang attacks. In the end, there were five men remaining and who would have thought that our web team’s prediction would come true; Damien, Mr. Malice, ‘Adorable’ Alan, ‘Wonderful’ William and Crusher Craib were left with no prospect of an outside challenge. Sterling Oil had did it and Richard R. Russell strode into the ring to proclaim them champions! The Summerhill fans were incensed as Russell gloated about a crowning achievement of Oil to win this year’s contest. Each man was thanked for his contribution, but Russell announced that he intended to live by his word and keep his promise to one of his men. He then announced that each of the other members would be asked to take the formal step of eliminating themselves from the contest, for the greater good. The first of whom was his bodyguard, Mr. Malice, who gleefully followed orders and hopped over the top rope to a chorus of boos. Next up was… Crusher Craib. A stunned silence fell over the Summerhill Hotel, but it looked as if Crusher was party to the plan as he stepped over the top. But something must have clicked in his mind as Craib stormed back into the ring having not touched the floor to remonstrate with Russell. But when Russell asked Craib to follow orders, the answer was loud and clear; NO!!! As an argument developed between the two, Russell was incensed and slapped Crusher! This only served to wind-up the ‘Creator of Carnage’ as he went after Russell! The rest of Sterling Oil jumped on Crusher and it was clear the alliance was over. As Mr. Malice escorted Mr. Russell to safety, Craib went on a tear, eliminating both ‘Wonderful’ William and ‘Adorable’ Alan in quick succession. But Damien was primed and tried the sneak attack, only for Craib to catch him, hoist him up into a bodypress and throw him out over the top rope! Crusher Craib had done it! As the crowd shouted their approval, Crusher’s release of energy in the ring was clear. He had torn off the Sterling Oil colours and it is clear that alliance is now over. Crusher proved that he does not need the backing of Mr. Russell to be successful, and after this dominating display, the sky must be the limit for the 2012 Regal Rumble winner. The future for Sterling Oil meanwhile does not look bright, not if Crusher Craib has anything to do with it! |
